A positive effect on population size from Project Godwit head-starting ☑️ good habitat and predator exclusion for recruitment ☑️ but wild productivity is still low. Fingers crossed that further research will allow solutions to be developed. Great talk Lynda Donaldson!

The New Forest holds a significant southern lowland population of breeding Curlew. c.46 pairs in 2020, 43 in 2021, and just c.33 in 2022. Important research is being conducted by our partner The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust to investigate the causes of this sad decline

RSPB Otmoor provided curlews calling over insect rich meadows. An organic farm wasn’t so lucky, nest predated early on, despite electric fence. Thank you ⁦Tony Juniper⁩ ⁦RSPB⁩ ⁦Natural England⁩ for today. ⁦Curlew Recovery Partnership⁩ ⁦Curlew Action

Just back from a couple of hours in the field to check on my local pair of New Forest Curlews, followed by a live interview with Sky News highlighting the role of seasonal car park closures in reducing recreational disturbance in this protected landscape.
