Bird Cherry flowering at the moment πŸ’š These delicate little flowers smell a bit like almonds and are in full bloom at the moment. Relentless rain has made working outside more difficult, but they prefer wetter soils and tend to grow in wet woodlands and along streams

Fantastic day planting trees and hedgerows around the football field at Burnley Road Academy in Mytholmroyd. Every class in the school took part with tremendous enthusiasm planting trees and shrubs which we donated to the school. Read the write-up in Halifax Courier

We will be announcing dates for throughout June and July, hand pulling Himalayan Balsam a non-native invasive species. We want to clear huge areas again this year to help bluebells and other native flora thrive. We'll be working in various locations again this year

We continued with weeding and preparing the Downy Birch bed for the smallest saplings to be replanted and shifting the little Horse Chestnuts. Grateful for the help this week from first-time volunteer Adam, Caroline and Chris from Friendly Soap and our regular Govi.

We're getting ready for our next annual seasonal project with invasive non-native species removal. Working with the community to remove over 100 hectares of Himalayan Balsam by hand pulling it in woodlands, tributaries and cloughs in the upper catchments to stop Balsam spreading.

Friday is our usual day at our Daisy Bank community tree nursery in Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire. Rain or sunshine, you'll find us here tending to our trees and getting on with various tasks that need doing throughout the year. 3 years and going strong, thanks to everyone helping

We've been out surveying sites getting ready for hand pulling (invasive non-native species) with a topdown approach to increase the effectiveness of removal efforts. Always amazed by its ability to grow absolutely anywhere, on trees, in streams and vertical rock!

Lots of rain the last few months, making it difficult to move around the nursery with wheelbarrows of compost for prepping the beds. We had lots of broken stakes from site maintenance and embedded some of them into the muddy path so we could get on with the job, worked a treatπŸ‘

Willow spilling and leaky dams we did as part of a small scale natural flood management project in February this year is bursting to life πŸ’š We really enjoyed doing this project. The willow will prevent the banking from eroding while the dams hold back water during heavy rainfall

Ewes got hopeful that the trees being prepped and loaded up for tree planting was for them to munch. Heavily pregnant, they waddle over every time we have bag of trees demanding to be fed.

In these difficult times it is easy to find oneself falling into despair. There's no better antidote than to spend the day at our tree nursery with lovely people doing the work we love, growing trees organically from local seed, in field beds or in donated pots washed and reused.

Please consider chipping in if you have some funds to help out with this crowdfunder. Good opportunity to support creating a community woodland and wildlife habitat and most importantly help improve biodiversity which is urgently needed with the steep declineπŸ‘‡ click link belowπŸ’š

Fantastic volunteers from West Yorkshire Combined Authority LGBTQIA+ network at our tree nursery yesterday. Replanting birch saplings that were too small to go out on planting schemes. Weeding, raking and pushing wheelbarrows of compost with sunshine, showers and glorious rainbow

Very happy to see that some of the hardwood stakes we had delivered have wire which can easily be recycled instead of usual plastic straps holding the bundles of 25 stakes together. It makes us sad when we end up with a load of plastic straps after planting that we can't recycle!
