Happy birthday Imogen Holst, born this day 1907. Composer, conductor and educator: she lived a musical life. She wrote books, formed choirs & conducted orchestras when it was rare to see a woman in the podium, and her music is increasingly being discovered and performed today.

We’re particularly delighted to give the 2nd ever performance of Ian Venables’s stunning Portraits of a Mind, for tenor, strings & piano, premiered @oxfordsong.

This time next week our opening concert will be mid flow! 🎉 St Mary’s is transforming into the C19th Parisian chamber club ‘La Trompette’, where friends met to make music. The programme includes songs by Joubert - written while living in the house Larkin later inhabited in Hull!
