Bruce Taylor Winds have been against migrating flocks of Whimbrel for most of the journey from West Africa. Not surprised some need to refuel.

Persistence is the mother of all success. Finally managed to read Whimbrel WN/GR, ringed by the Eco Flyway team at a nearby high-tide roost.

In the background you hear the local 'amolador' blowing his whistle to advertise his tool-sharpening services to the people of Alcochete.

As the tide receded this morning a handsome flock of 36 Whimbrel took a break from foraging. Among them were three individuals colour-ringed by the Eco Flyway crew.

If eponyms were still a thing, I'd be tempted to call these 'Camilo's Curlew'. 😉 Camilo Carneiro
