@whsource Reasonable Qs. No clear answers yet:
1. In obesity, there is a lot of adipose. So a relatively inactive tissue could have substantial effect.
2. Even if direct contribution to TEE is small, altered substrate partitioning may influence activity of more metabolically active tissues

Jim Johnson, PhD Michael "Mike" Albert, MD @whsource Clinical observations are good first step.
However, a blinded belief in association is superstition in modern days.

@whsource Stuart Phillips (he/him) McMaster University @MacMODR Coffee does not reduce LDL. There are quite a few randomized trials done on both filtered and boiled coffee. Boiled, espresso and Turkish coffee increase LDL and filtered coffee is neutral. nmcd-journal.com/article/S0939-…

Plant protein is neutral, which is not bad. Instead of it maybe being a claim of that 'meat will lower your risk of ACM more than plant protein', it disproves that meat is a risk of ACM as sometimes parroted.
Donal C Collins @whsource Raphael Sirtoli And that's the spirit that lead us to raise doubt about the LDL hypothesis :)

One step is clearly convincing people that there is more to food than appetite and satiety.

Incidentally we have a paper which deals exactly with this.

@whsource Robert Hoffmann Tim Noakes Fat burns 4 calories per kg. Muscles 12kcal/kg, so 3x more.
'One study measured participants’ resting metabolisms during 24 weeks of weight training. In men, weight training led to a 9% increase in resting metabolism.'

This is not insignificant.
Stefan Schubert @whsource The mono diet is basically that. Eat only one type of food and you don't want to overeat. healthline.com/nutrition/mono…

Even RCTs require causal assumptions based on associations, so I'm not sure what unique study property you might be referring to.
